alcuni screenshot delle animazioni presenti nei DVD di UFO  grazie ai nostri soci Roberto Baldassari (realizzatore delle animazioni 3d dei menu) e Marcello Rossi (curatore dell'opera).

Per la prima volta in Italia questo classico della fantascienza televisiva verrà proposto su DVD, in un'edizione completamente restaurata, con audio e video rimasterizzati in digitale. Inoltre tutte le scene censurate nell'edizione italiana sono state reintegrate e sottotitolate. L'intera serie verrà proposta in due eleganti cofanetti. Il primo cofanetto, che conterrà 12 episodi, sarà disponibile, oltre che in una versione standard, in una speciale edizione da collezione a tiratura limitata.

Un'informazione interessante comunicata alla Deepcon è che i quattro episodi inediti saranno doppiati in italiano per l'occasione per il secondo cofanetto che uscirà in autunno.

Carlton have announced Gerry Anderson's "UFO" for release in March and May. March 18th sees a 4 DVD digipack edition priced at £49.99 along with volumes 1 and 2 stand alone priced at £15.99. May13th sees Volumes 3 and 4 stand alone also at £15.99. These four disks represent episodes 1-13 of the 26 episode series. Hopefully we will see the rest of the episodes later in the year. LAUNCHING ON DVD IN A TOWN NEAR YOU!

UFO, Gerry Anderson's first live action science-fiction television series,and an acknowledged classic of the genre with spectacular visual effects, will be launched on DVD by Canton Video in Spring 2002. Anderson who was recently the recipient of a British Video Industry Award for lifetime achievement has of course created some of the UK's most successful television programming with series such as Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Space 1999 and Joe 90 to his credit. With ground breaking subject matter, Anderson's programmes were always ahead of their time and UFO was no exception, with topics such as alien invasions, anti-aging and sterility!

Carlton Video is releasing a special collector's 4 DVD digi-pack edition of UFO on 18th March 2002 of the first half of the series, along with UFO Volume 1 and 2 as stand-alone DVDs. This release will be followed on 13th May 2002 with the release of UFO DVD Volumes 3 and 4.

UFO, conceived in 1968, broadcast in 1970 and set in 1985 featured thought provoking storylines and power fill performances by stars Ed Bishop, George Sewell, Michael Billington and Wanda Ventham. The premise of UFO is Unidentified Flying Objects transporting Aliens from a dying planet to Earth, and abducting human organs that can be transplanted into their own bodies. Operating from a secret complex hidden beneath a film studio, only SHADO - Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organisation - stands between the intruders and an unsuspecting world.

Visual effects supervisor Derek Meddings and model designer Mike Trim created Skydiver, the UFO submarine, the satellite computer S.I.D. the Moonbase Interceptors, the Lunar Module and Carrier and the Moon Mobiles - the latter being similar to designs seen in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.

Art director, Bob Bell, a regular on Gerry Anderson productions designed the various sets that would appear throughout the UFO series - the interiors of Moonbase (the Control Sphere and Leisure Sphere - both of which could be re-dressed to double as other spheres), SHADO HQ on Earth, the interior of Skydiver and Straker's film studio office. The sets were constructed at the MGM British Studios in Borehamwood, Herts with additional filming taking place at Buniham Beeches, Black Park at Iver Heath next to Pinewood Studios, ATV Elstree Studios and Century 21 Studios in Slough.

Although UFO enjoyed network broadcast in the USA as well as the UK, Anderson re-developed his ideas for a second series of UFO into a brand new television production - Space 1999!

Each of the DVD releases will include 3 or more UFO episodes along with a host of special original extra features that will appeal to fans of the cult series.

Some of the original special features include exclusive commentaries with Edward Bishop & Gerry Anderson, stills galleries, alternate opening sequence and deleted scenes gallery, main character profiles, Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organisation (SHAD 0) dossier part 1 & part 2, actor profiles, doppelganger illustrated text featurette, plus much more.

Carlton Video will release the remaining UFO series on other DVD titles later in the year.

UFO DVD VOLUME 1"

Identified: 1980 - After ten years of setbacks and sabotage, SHADO - Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organisation - is finally ready to defend the Earth from Alien invasion. Following a fire at Westbrook Electronics, Colonel Freeman is assigned to safeguard important electronic equipment on a flight from Los Angeles. But SD detects an approaching UFO - its target: Freemans aircraft!

Computer Affair: An astronaut is killed during a UFO alert and the UFO gets through SHADO's outer defences. Straker wants to know why it happened and suspects human error. Is the relationship between Gay Ellis and Mark Bradley to blame?

Flight Path: Straker learns that technician Paul Roper is passing computer co-ordinates to the Aliens. Under interrogation, Roper explains that his wife is being threatened, but is unable to reveal the identity of his contact. The significance of the co-ordinates remains a mystery until Straker realises that the Aliens are planning to attack Moonbase!

UFO DVD VOLUME 2

Exposed: An XV-104 test plane wanders into a UFO target area and the pilot, Paul Foster, makes sightings of both the UFO and Sky One. Angry and frustrated that on-one believes his story, Foster suspects a cover-up and decides to conduct his own investigation into the activities of ex-USAF Colonel Ed Straker.

Conflict: When an Alien Limpet UFO causes the destruction of Lunar Module 32, Straker demands a clean up programme by the International Astrophysical Commission to remove hazardous space debris from Earth orbit. But Straker finds himself butting heads with I.A.C. chairman James Henderson who wants a complete shutdown of SHADO operations.

The Dalotek Affair: When Moonbase experiences a radio and video blackout, Foster suspects that a geo-scanner, operated by a team of surveyors at the Dalotek installation, is to blame. Then a second blackout causes the deaths of two astronauts when their lunar module crashes near Moonbase. But are the Dalotek team to blame.

UFO DVD VOLUME 3

A Question of Priorities: Straker faces the toughest decision of his career when his son is critically injured in an accident. The drug that can save his life can only be ferried from New York in time aboard a SHADO Transporter - the same Transporter that is in the prime position to track an Alien defector on the West Coast of Ireland.

Ordeal: Tired and hung-over after an all-night party, Foster takes part in a mandatory fitness programme at the SHADO Research Centre. After passing out in the sauna, he wakes to find the Centre under attack by the Aliens, who beat him senseless and drag him to their UFO!

The Responsibility Seat: Reporter Jo Fraser bugs Straker's office and records a potentially damaging communique. To maintain security, Straker sets out to recover the tape, leaving Alec Freeman in the hot seat back at SHADO HQ as a Russian mobile rig goes out of control and heads for a collision with Moonbase.

UFO DVD VOLUME 4

The Square Triangle: In the woods between Clare Cross and Lingbury, an injured Alien stumbles into a lonely cottage and is shot down by Liz Newton and her lover Cass Fowler. Liz and Cass are taken to SHADO HQ for questioning, but when Liz's husband arrives at the cottage, Paul Foster realises that the Alien's death was no accident.

Court Martial: Classified information about a Skydiver rendezvous with a supply ship has been leaked to the press and Paul Foster is the only suspect. Under SHADO regulations he faces a military court martial - if hem is found guilty, the sentence is death! Believing him to be innocent, Straker and Freeman race to find the real culprit.

Close Up: Straker gets JAC backing to use a B142 space probe mounted with an electronic telescope to track and follow a UFO it is origin, there to take pictures of the Alien Homeworld and transmit them back to Earth. Now comes the difficult part - to manoeuvre a UFO into a position where the probe can be activated into a new flight pattern.
